Rustington Convalescent Home
Client: The Carpenters’ Company
Rustington Convalescent Home is a prominent Grade II listed Victorian building near Littlehampton, set in extensive grounds and looking out to sea. It is owned by The Worshipful Company of Carpenters, and provides convalescent and respite care to people of all ages. The main element of our proposed scheme is 26 new residential units, arranged as a pair of terraces facing onto a landscaped garden. While their form is reminiscent of traditional almshouses, their design will offer a contemporary yet sympathetic contrast with the main building. Two shorter terraces and a pair of new semi detached houses are positioned at the edges of the site.
Alongside the new homes, we will also refurbish two existing dwellings on the site, and convert a listed former laundry building into five apartments. In the main convalescent home we will add four new patient rooms, and will modify the entrance and insert a new lift to make the building fully accessible.
Proposals for Rustington Convalescent Home received listed building consent in June 2015 and planning consent in October 2015.
